Mid-Week Challenge

If you grew up in or around church you probably have a favorite hymn.  The songs we sing as children and even now as adults help to identify and make application of our faith.  The songs we sing in worship help us to express what we read is Scripture.  Fifty years ago Bill and Gloria Gaither were concerned about the type of world they were facing as young parents.  Upon the birth of their son Benjy they were inspired to composed “a song of hope” to help them and others express their faith.  “Because He Lives” described the faith a Believer can have in troubled times.  Their hymn went on to be one of the favorites of many.  “I’m not sure how good we thought it was, but we just wanted to create a song of hope, and it just rang a bell with people.  I don’t think we understood the depth of what we wrote at the time when we wrote it,” Gaither said in a Baptist Press interview on the anniversary of the song.

Released in October 1971, “Because He Lives” is a song that is sung in good times and bad.  The fact that Jesus lives gives us all hope for a better tomorrow.

You can read the full interview and learn some of the history of the song at:
