Mid-Week Challenge

There is nothing funny about the COVID-19 virus that has changed the way we live and the way we will have to interact with others going forward.  Nothing funny, that is until you look at how the story has been given to us over the past 10 weeks.  I believe it is the information we have been given and not the virus itself that has done the most damage going forward.  I say that it is funny because what else is there left to do but laugh at the way the media has made some of the talking heads into demigods controlling every aspect of our behavior.  Since January, some of the “leading experts” have flip-flopped on what they say we can and cannot do to control the virus.  Many of their decisions appear to be kneejerk reactions to discoveries they could not explain so without explanation they prescribed new mandates that government leaders had little choice to follow.  These mandates have had a domino effect on the lives of countless individuals and at no time have we heard the “leading experts” apologize or give an explanation for their sudden change of direction.  Here is one person’s comedic take on the situation:  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8251531/Woman-mocks-contradictory-information-surrounding-COVID-19-spoof-press-conference.html

Humor sometimes helps us make it through difficult situations that are out of our control.

Proverbs 17:22 tells us, A joyful heart is good medicine, But a broken spirit dries up the bones. The last few weeks might have broken our spirits but not all is lost.  If one thing, we have been reminded that people cannot know it all.  Leaders will let us down, mislead us and even lie to protect themselves.  God knows that trust is one of the most important things we give to another human being and He equally knows that in a sinful world people disappoint.  For this reason He makes it very clear that we can trust Him. Here are just a few examples from Scripture:

Hebrews 13:8 - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Malachi 3:6 - “For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. James 1:17 - Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.

Isaiah 40:8 - The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

As the dust continues to settle in the next few weeks, don’t give up!  Continue to pray for our leaders, the future and for everyone who has lost something during this difficult time. Try to find the humor in things because sometimes that’s the only thing that will bring us together.  God loves you and that will never change.  Jesus will never leave you or forsake you! He is the friend that sticks closer than a brother!  That’s no joke!

God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? Numbers 23:19
