Mid-Week Challenge

I’m sure you have seen the bumper sticker that spells out the word “Coexist” using the symbols of the major world religions.  It is a seemingly innocent attempt to encourage the people of our world to learn to function within their individual belief system, side by side, hand in hand while peacefully staying in their own lane.  That would be great if that actually happened, but in reality most of the people who openly argue this approach do not practice what they preach.  Instead, what we have found is an aggressive approach to dismantling anything that does not fall in line with their secular agenda.  Most recently we have evidence of this in a meeting with President Biden and representatives of six major atheist and secular organizations held late last week.

The White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships held a virtual meeting with representatives of six groups: American Atheists, the Freedom From Religion Foundation, the American Humanist Association, Center for Inquiry, Ex-Muslims of North America and the Secular Coalition for America.  “We highlighted priorities from our coalition’s Secular Agenda for the Biden-Harris administration and discussed what the administration can do to better uphold the rights of secular Americans,” said a press release from the Secular Coalition for America.  American Atheists president Nick Fish said in a statement he was “pleased” that the administration “takes seriously its obligation to meet the needs of atheists, humanists, and other nonreligious Americans.  It is reassuring to know that the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships shares our commitment to government neutrality, church-state separation, and religious pluralism – and that means including atheists,” Fish said.

You might recall late last year a group of 19 atheist and like-minded organizations released a “secular agenda” for the Biden administration which asked that the administration repeal protections for religious liberty and to require taxpayer funding of abortion.  Among its most controversial actions, the coalition sought to repeal the Religious Freedom Restoration Act which prevents the government from “substantially burdening a person's exercise of religion.” The coalition has asked the Biden administration to reverse or modify some 30 executive orders, regulations or rules the Trump administration adopted to protect religious liberty.  One of these asks Congress to “have a secular Congressional invocation” and “remove mandating swearing to God in all congressional oaths.”

There are several other examples that could be given but these alone reveal the groups true motives.  They do not wish to coexist; they wish to forces all faith based organizing to conform to their way of thinking.  To do so would remove all religious convictions for the organizations to exist.  In the end, that is exactly what these secular groups are trying to accomplish; the total dismantling of all faith systems.

Pray for our leaders and look for ways that you can support the organizations that fight to keep faith and the principles of Christianity in service of the people of our world.  If we remove Christ from the marketplace there will no longer be a source of grace, mercy and forgiveness shown to those in need.  What they will be given is cold, governmental solutions that do not see them as spiritually broken individuals in need of God’s love; but just as one of millions in need of conformity to the universal system of human existence.

The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.  Psalm 14:1
